My wife called me while I was on my way home from work to tell me that there was a praying mantis crawling down the railing of the front porch steps. Whenever she sees a photo opportunity, she always let’s me know. To my surprise, it was a lot smaller than what I was expecting. I’ve never seen one that tiny. I had just enough staircase width to set up my tripod and get close to the maximum magnification of my lens while keeping the desired composition. I ended up taking a couple of shots. He moved right after the first capture so I had to re-position my tripod and camera for the second shot. I played around with him a little to get him to look my way. Once I had his eyes trained on me, I took the shot below. My wife swears these creatures are aliens.
