Yanahli Flare

Maury County just open the gates to its newest public park. The 474 acre park will be the largest in the county. Currently, there is only a loop trail and bathroom facilities, but there are big plans for the future which will yield more trails and amenities.

One of my favorite things to do is taking nature hikes. I can see myself hiking the trails of Yanahli Park just before sunrise with a 300mm lens attached to my camera. A few of my prizes during such hikes include captures of deer, mountain lions, water fowl, snakes, squirrels, insects and birds of prey. I love watching the wildlife come alive in the morning. My first and very short trek along the Yanahli’s loop trail reminds me of my hikes at other established parks like Radnor Lake in Nashville and Bowie Nature Park in Fairview. This is a welcomed addition to Maury County. As mentioned, I took a very short hike along the loop trail. I would have made the entire loop, but the sun was setting and I wanted to grab a few photos before I lost the light.

Those who know me know that I’m also an amateur astronomer. My wife and I are part of the NASA Night Sky Network. We donate our time and telescopes to bring the night sky to the public. This also includes work with STEM programs. As I was walking back to my car, I envisioned a Star Party in the field next to the bathroom facilities. Bowie Nature Park in Fairview has frequent star parties at their park. This is just another activity that would work well in this venue. Maybe this will put a bug in the ear of the park administrators if they read this.

This park has a lot of potential. I look forward to the additional trails, especially those trails leading down to the Duck River. I hope to spend much more time exploring Yanahli Park in the near future. If you want to see more photos from Yanahli, Subscribe or Like and Follow me at Shuttering Thru Life. Thanks for reading!
