I hit the streets of Nashville with my new street photography kit. Street photography was one of the main reasons I wanted a smaller camera—something I could carry every day without having to bring along my larger camera.
I originally had a video project planned for another location, but decided to put that on hold and take advantage of the overcast skies in Music City. I thought the conditions would be perfect for a black-and-white treatment, and I really like how these turned out.
These are straight-out-of-camera JPEGs with just a touch of grain. The look reminds me of Kodak Tri-X 400, which has always been my favorite black-and-white film stock.
The photographs themselves may not be the most compelling, as this outing was really more of a test run with my new setup. But what made the experience interesting was how I captured them. I used the camera's silent shutter and took every shot without raising it to my eye or pressing the shutter button. Instead, I simply tapped my subject on the tilting LCD screen to capture the moment. It was a completely different way of photographing, and at times, I felt almost invisible.
All in all, it was a fun outing. And with Halloween in the air, Nashville had just the atmosphere I was hoping to find.
